Written down, on purpose

Five things we will never do to your shop.

We read the one-star reviews of RepairDesk, RepairShopr, RepairQ, mHelpDesk and CellSmart before writing a line of Mendmate. The same five complaints came up every time. So they became the rules.

  1. Hold your data hostage.

Export everything — customers, tickets, invoices, stock, sales — as CSV and JSON, in one click, free, even after you cancel. No retrieval fee, ever.

  2. Make you ring us to cancel.

One email cancels it. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. No phone call, no notice period, no "one more month".

  3. Charge for a feature that doesn't work.

If it isn't solid, it doesn't ship. Nothing is paywalled on a promise, and this page says "not yet" wherever something is not built.

  4. Change how your shop works without asking.

Behaviour changes are opt-in. Nothing switches itself on overnight.

  5. Wander off to a bigger market.

RepairShopr's owner now leads with IT departments at $129 a user. Mendmate is for repair shops. That is the whole roadmap.

The ticket, start to finish

Tag to invoice, on one ticket.

Every repair is one ticket that moves through ten states, and the server refuses any move the state machine does not allow. Here is the path.

Step 1 · Intake

Type the phone number. The customer fills in.

Returning customer? Name and email appear with their ticket count. Add the device and the fault and the ticket is on the board with a ref the counter can read out. The signature is captured on screen when they drop off or collect.

  • Customer matched by phone or email, so no duplicate records
  • Short refs with your own prefix; type or scan one and the ticket opens
  • Photos on the ticket are not built yet
Step 2 · Diagnosed → Quoted → Approved

Parts and labour price the quote. The yes is recorded.

Add parts and labour lines and the ticket totals itself. Move it to Quoted, then to Approved when the customer says yes. A rejected quote goes back to Diagnosed, not to the bin.

  • Totals from parts and labour, with your VAT rate
  • Approval is a permission: front of house cannot grant it
  • Sending the quote to the customer by link is not switched on yet
Step 3 · In repair

On the bench, every move is on the timeline.

The technician works from the ticket: parts used, labour hours against a rate, internal notes. Every status change, note and signature is written to the timeline with who did it and when, and the same record goes to the audit log.

  • Labour lines: hours at a rate, totalled
  • Roles enforced on every action: technicians cannot refund, front of house cannot approve quotes
  • Taking stock off the shelf from the ticket is next
Step 4 · Ready → Collected

Ready. Collected. Signed. One click each.

Move the ticket to Ready when the bench is done and to Collected when they pick it up. Their signature sits on the ticket. The day after collection, one polite email can ask for a Google review and link to your own profile. Switch it on in settings with your review link.

  • The picker offers only the legal next states, so nobody skips a step
  • Customer portal shows status and history without a phone call
  • Text message updates are not switched on yet
Step 5 · Take payment

Cash or card at the till. Stock moves on the sale.

The till is in the same tab as the ticket. Scan or type to add products, take cash or card, and stock comes off the right store's shelf on the sale. Card payments go through Stripe at Stripe's rates with nothing added.

  • Cash with the change worked out, or card through Stripe
  • Stock decrements per store on the sale
  • Mixed tenders and refunds from the till are not built yet
Step 6 · Invoiced → Closed

Invoice it. Close it. Hand the accountant a clean CSV.

Raise the VAT invoice for the ticket, record the payment, and the ticket moves to Invoiced, then Closed. Reports show revenue and margin, top products, repairs by technician and the money sitting in stock.

  • Invoices, sales, tickets, customers and stock: one CSV each, one click
  • Everything as one JSON file, any time, even on a lapsed account
  • Xero sync is not built yet

Founding shops · 5 places

Year one free. Then half price for life.

Five UK repair shops get twelve months free, then £19, £44 or £99 a month, locked for as long as they stay. In return: use it daily, tell me what is wrong, and let me fix it. When the fifth shop signs, the page comes down.

Straight answers.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Mendmate runs in a browser on a laptop, tablet or till PC. Receipt and label printers (Star and Epson CloudPRNT, Dymo, QZ Tray) are set up with you. Card payments go through Stripe.

Can I import from RepairDesk or RepairShopr?

Parts come in by CSV through the setup wizard. RepairDesk exports we import for you: email us and we do the migration with you. Customers and open tickets from other systems are a manual job today.

What does card processing cost?

Stripe's standard rate and nothing more. Mendmate adds no markup and takes no cut of your card payments.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Nothing bad. Export is one click, free, and it works even after your subscription has lapsed. We keep the account until you ask us to delete it.

Does it work offline?

Not yet. The shop needs reliable wifi. A read-only offline mode is on the list.

Do you handle the VAT margin scheme for refurb and trade-ins?

Not yet. It is on the list because almost nobody does it. Until it ships, the trade-in record carries what you paid and what it resold for, so your accountant has the figures.

Put the next device on a Mendmate tag.

14 days free. No card. Import your parts list in an afternoon.
